Pocket + firefox sync does not work when clearing cookies after closing firefox. Making an exception seems impossible.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0
Steps to reproduce:
I checked "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" in the firefox privacy settings. I pressed "Manage permissions" next to the checkbox and set "getpocket.com" as always allowed to set cookies. I reopened firefox.
Actual results:
Every time I open firefox I have to login again to pocket before being able to use the "save to pocket" button, therefore making it unusable.
Expected results:
I would have expected that cookies for getpocket.com are not deleted on closing firefox. I remember this was possible in previous versions.

Update: I noticed that clearing the cookies also breaks the firefox sync function. As a consequence I had to turn off clearing cookies, even though I would like this functionality. I am aware that there are extensions that might be able to solve this problem but I prefer not to use extensions anymore since it came out that the "stylish" extension tracked all user history.

I'm not sure if the source of my problem is the same as I do allow browser to save the cookies (but I use Cookie AutoDelete) and it is basically impossible for me to log into Pocket for more than one tab even in the same window. I run 69.0.2 using Debian 10.

TBD if this is a problem with being logged into Pocket via getpocket.com or within Firefox Browser chrome.
