Expected results:

This functionality saves 'payment cards', not 'credit cards'.

'Payment card' is a superset of which credit card is a member. Debit cards are another member, something I have saved and use with autofill.

Users who are unaware of the US English convention to describe all payment cards as credit cards may not understand that this functionality works for their cards too. Debit cards are the majority of payment cards by instance and by usage in the UK:

Possible fixes:
